Room conditions
- Check the room at bedtime and early morning, not only during the day.
- Look for direct sun, drafts, blocked vents and heat-producing electronics.
- Stand at the door and lie at pillow height to compare light and sound.
- Inspect windows, exterior walls and hidden corners for visible moisture or damage.
Bed and bedding
- Remove decorative layers and items stored on the bed.
- Check the mattress surface and frame for visible unevenness.
- Measure mattress width, length and depth in centimetres or inches.
- Note each layer from protector to top cover.
- Check whether pillow height changes after the head settles.
Movement and access
- Keep a clear path from the door to the bed.
- Confirm lamps, switches and essential items are reachable.
- Check that drawers, windows and doors open safely.
- Leave enough access to change sheets and clean under the bed.
Maintenance
- Read care labels before washing or drying filled bedding.
- Make sure thick items are completely dry before use or storage.
- Clean vents, fan blades, bed frames and under-bed areas.
- Remove damp laundry and strong fragrances before judging air freshness.
Decision
- Name the single strongest annoyance.
- Choose one no-cost or reversible test.
- Keep other variables steady for several ordinary nights.
- Measure and read return terms before buying.
Not a health assessment: This checklist does not evaluate sleep disorders, pain, breathing, mould exposure or other medical concerns.
